Abstract

Abstract: This study conducts an integrative exegetical analysis of Genesis 2:24 as the theological foundation of Christian marriage. It reveals four interrelated principles within the divine design of marriage: monogamy, heterosexuality, independence (leaving), and physical unity (one flesh). These four principles form a coherent theological architecture in which each aspect mutually reinforces and defines the others. Monogamy reflects God's faithfulness, heterosexuality is based on gender complementarity in creation, independence is a prerequisite for forming a new family unit, and the "one flesh" union establishes sexuality as a sacred gift within the covenantal bond. The study addresses the academic gap in the lack of a holistic analysis of these four dimensions as a unified system. Its implications for the contemporary church include marriage formation centred on covenant, pastoral guidance that is firm yet compassionate on gender issues, the establishment of healthy boundaries with families of origin, and the restoration of a biblical view of sexuality as sacred. Thus, Genesis 2:24 remains relevant as a normative foundation for the resilience and witness of Christian marriage amid contemporary cultural challenges.
