Memelihara Nilai Diri Remaja: Kajian Hermeneutika Kontekstual Matius 7:6 dan Implikasinya terhadap Fenomena Toxic Relationship

Abstract: Adolescents are increasingly experiencing toxic relationships, both in direct interactions and within digital spaces. These unhealthy relationships significantly affect their self-esteem, mental health, and the growth of Christian faith among youth. This article begins with the question: how can Matthew 7:6 be interpreted to guide teenagers who are involved in toxic relationships? The study employs a contextual hermeneutical approach that incorporates linguistic, historical, and theological analysis to address this question. The results indicate that the terms “what is holy” and “pearls” can be understood as representing something valuable within a person—such as their dignity and faith, which are precious before God—while “dogs” and “pigs” refer to elements that are harmful and unworthy. In the context of relationships, these may symbolize individuals who demean or destroy one’s values and self-worth, being considered “unclean” and “unworthy to receive” what is precious. Therefore, Matthew 7:6 can also be interpreted as a basis for practical advice to adolescents in navigating destructive relationships, particularly in maintaining their faith identity and personal dignity. According to this study, spiritual formation and holistic mentoring are crucial for helping teenagers establish healthy boundaries, communicate assertively, and cultivate relationships that nurture their spiritual growth.
Abstrak: Remaja semakin banyak mengalami fenomena toxic relationship, baik dalam interaksi langsung maupun di ruang digital. Relasi yang tidak sehat ini memengaruhi harga diri, kesehatan mental, dan pertumbuhan iman remaja Kristen secara signifikan. Artikel ini dimulai dengan pertanyaan: bagaimana Matius 7:6 dapat diinterpretasikan untuk memberi nasihat kepada remaja saat mereka terlibat dalam toxic relationship? ndekatan yang digunakan adalah hermeneutika kontekstual yang melibatkan analisis linguistik, historis, dan teologis untuk menjawabnya. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa istilah “yang kudus” dan “mutiara” merujuk pada martabat diri dan iman yang berharga di hadapan Allah, sedangkan “anjing” dan “babi” merujuk pada pihak yang merendahkan atau menghancurkan nilai-nilai dan martabat diri tersebut, yang dipandang sebagai pihak yang ‘najis’ dan ‘tidak layak menerima’ sesuatu yang berharga. Dengan demikian, Matius 7:6 dapat juga ditafsirkan untuk menjadi dasar nasihat praktis bagi remaja saat menjalani relasi pacaran khususnya dalam hal mempertahankan identitas iman dan martabat diri mereka. Menurut penelitian ini, pembinaan rohani dan pendampingan integral sangat penting bagi remaja agar mereka dapat menetapkan batasan yang sehat, berkomunikasi secara asertif, dan menemukan hubungan yang mendukung pertumbuhan iman.
